Liverpool man Mohamed Salah has enjoyed another excellent season, winning two trophies so far, as well as his third Golden Boot.
However, he hasn’t been the star of the Reds this season, according to former player David James, who believes Alisson should win the award.
Although Salah got off to a flying start in the 2021/22 season, scoring 23 goals in 27 appearances, he got into a rut by his extremely high standards.
He has scored just five goals from open play since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, which saw Egypt suffer a penalty in the final. Salah also missed out on the 2022 World Cup losing again on penalties to Sadio Mane’s Senegal.
While Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson’s brilliance has been a constant throughout the season, says James, who suggested the Brazilian could be man of the match in the Reds’ Champions League final with the Real Madrid, live on talkSPORT.
“Alisson is definitely my Liverpool player of the season, I’ve been saying that for weeks,” James told talkSPORT.com with Genting Casino.
“It’s not about the goalkeepers’ union – I’ve watched a few videos and Alisson is the best one-on-one. I’ve watched him, Hugo Lloris and Ederson one-on-one.
“When I watched the videos I was like ‘oh yeah, he made that save.’ then Liverpool would go on and score three or four goals.

“Mo Salah was fantastic again – sharing the Golden Boot, but if you look at Liverpool’s record what was really polarizing was the end of the season where in four of the last five games Liverpool were behind and came back to win the games. They have so much resilience.
“Whereas at the start of the season when they were conceding first, they weren’t winning games. That made Alisson’s early saves even more important.
“He’s been superb this season. He’s backed up everything Liverpool have achieved so far.
“His assists, he contributed, his composure, he never looked up in the air. He’s been a rock.
