Mohamed Salah set to stay at Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp addresses prospect of runaway stars

Jurgen Klopp says he doesn’t fear Mohamed Salah will consider leaving Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool face a tough challenge after failing to qualify for the Champions League next season, meaning they will have to settle for Europa League action instead.

For a player like Salah, playing in Europe’s top competition seems fair, but the Egyptian star may miss the chance to measure up to the continent’s best.

The 30-year-old, who has scored 30 goals and 15 assists, expressed his disappointment with the way the season went on social media, saying: “I am totally devastated. There is no absolutely no excuse for that.

“We had everything we needed to qualify for the Champions League next year and we failed. We are Liverpool and qualifying for the competition is the bare minimum.

“I’m sorry, but it’s too early for an uplifting or optimistic article. We have failed you and ourselves. »

But despite Salah’s obvious displeasure with the way the season has gone, Klopp expects his star man to help Liverpool get things back on track next term.

When asked if he was worried about Salah’s future, Klopp replied: “No worries, no.

“I only heard what he said but couldn’t read anything that would point in that direction.

“Obviously Mo loves being here and Mo was a part of that. He apologized for what ‘we’ did – not ‘what the other guys did, but I had to go with them’. It’s okay.

“If a player ever came to me and said ‘oh, we haven’t qualified for the Champions League, I have to go’, I would drive him to the other club myself.

“I’d take the key, (and say) ‘come in the car, where do you want to go, I’ll drive you’.

“It would be something that I could never understand. It’s, I would say, ‘oh, we haven’t qualified for the Champions League, I have to work in the Champions League so I’m going’.”

Klopp added: “I’m responsible for this mess, or whatever, so you can’t go there in those moments.

“Mo’s not, not at all, and no one else has told me. They ask if they can take a longer vacation or whatever – but no one asks me if after the holidays they have to come back.

“So it wasn’t in our conversation.

“I saw him now in the canteen and he was smiling. I don’t know why because I didn’t ask him, but he’s not in a bad mood. That’s all.”
