Missouri businesses struggle with smart sign use

A community in Missouri is struggling after a McDonald’s restaurant sparked a now-viral ‘sign war’ with businesses in the area.

The war of words began earlier this month when the fast-food chain store in Marshfield, Missouri wrote the message “Hey DQ! I want to have a sign war” at a local Dairy Queen, the Springfield News-Leader reported.

McDonald’s replied, “That’s cute. Our ice cream makes itself.

But what started as a back-and-forth between two fast-food restaurants has resulted in dozens of companies having a witty fun, the newspaper reported.

The brand marketing director for Hamra Enterprises, which runs a Wendy’s restaurant that took part in the sign war, said she was “up for it” for the venue to take part in the messaging feud.

“If you read the comments (about ‘sign wars’), the general consensus is that it makes people smile,” Hamra’s Eve Metheny told the Springfield News-Leader.

“People want to laugh and giggle at things like that, so I think people are just craving it right now.”
