Minnetonka eyes Class 1 success ahead of Godolphin two-prong attack in Fred Archer Stakes

If Royal Ascot is still on your mind, there’s plenty of Group and Class 1 action this weekend on the flat in Newmarket as well as Friday night as they cap off the card with a Class 2 handicap.

Two listed races, then the stakes of the Group 3 criterion, will take place on Saturday at the famous Newmarket track as the Irish Derby and Newcastle’s coveted remaining handicap, the Northumberland Plate in the same afternoon.

Class 2 Handicap Betting Tip – 8:45 PM

Aeonian at 2/1

The favorite is saddled by William Buick which is a huge bonus and he and Sir Michael Stoute are in great form so this could prove to be a great combination.

But this lightly run 3-year-old is rated 10lbs lighter than the highest weight Peter The Great who is trained by John & Thady Gosden.

But Aeonian is always looking to reach his full potential with an excellent pedigree, by Ulysses.

This will only be the second time on this 1m2f trip and was only half a length at Lingfield and should relish the second time in all weathers.

Fillies’ Stakes Quoted Race Betting Tip – 2:05 PM

Minnetonka at 5/2

This is a fascinating 6f graded race for impressive 2yos who showed potential on their debut and beyond.

A few runners have already taken the big stage at Royal Ascot, including Miami Girl who finished just under five lengths behind Dramatized in the Group 2 5f sprint, Queen Mary Stakes.

The horse trained by Richard Hannon has recently come close to a few winners and has a pretty good 10% strike rate.

But Miami Girl teammate Minnetonka is the overwhelming favorite for that after winning her last race by seven lengths at Salford in a Class 4.

This Kingman filly could have huge potential and after that emphatic victory on her debut, any progression from there could be the winning answer in this area.

But there are 18 riders in this race and they all have their edge in a fairly open contest.

Frankie Dettori is aboard the Lezoo trained by Ralph Beckett who is about 6 years old and won on his debut and his only race.

Believing high in the stalls of the Albany Stakes from Royal Ascot and it is clear that George Boughey’s yard is doing well, and there must be a lot of confidence having already been entered into this group 3.

James Doyle saddles another of Boughey’s Highclere Stud riders as he has done many times this season to great effect, including on Cachet in the 1000 Guineas.

And the 31-year-old also dispatches Malrescia who has won twice after finishing four lengths behind Dramatized, the winner of the Queen Mary Stakes.

It makes for a fascinating contest where it looks like the favorite should step up and live up to her pedigree, while a chance either way from Believe is also of huge value.

Fred Archer Stakes Betting Tip – 2:40 p.m.

3/1 Rebel Romance

Regal Reality put in a hearty performance at Royal Ascot in the Wolferton Stakes finishing fourth and on that race alone you could definitely make their case for the move to 1m4f.

Dubawi’s offspring is working to good effect this season, which makes the Godolphin runner from Charlie Appleby Rebel’s Romance even more interesting at 3/1.

With William Buick also on board, the gelding could take on Max Vega.

Horse trained by Appleby will drop 5lbs lower after losing twice at Meydan this calendar year by one distance, but only makes him 4lbs heavier than in a Group 2 competition winning over 5L .

The first grass race looks interesting at this point and with Buick back on board, it’s a big sign of potential.
