Migrant invader kills elderly British couple

A migrant from Romania killed an 86-year-old woman and left her 88-year-old husband in need of 24-hour care until his death months later.

Vasile Culea, 34, broke into the home of Kenneth and Freda Walker in the suburb of Shirebrook, Derbyshire, in January after “heard that the couple had a large sum of money in the house which they shared for more than 60 years. according to an official police press release.

“But when the couple were unable or unwilling to give Culea the money, they brutally assaulted them,” said the statement – which carefully avoided mentioning Culea’s status as foreigners. or the fact that he was still in the country despite having already been convicted of a violent crime in 2017 — called back.

Culea ‘tied up’ the pair, placing a bag over Ms Walker’s head and ‘brutally attacked them, leaving them both with brain damage, lacerations and numerous other injuries’, Judge Henshaw said in words quoted by The Guardian.

The court had heard that although Ms Walker and her husband both suffered ‘horrible’ injuries, she might well have survived had she not been ‘left without any help’ by Culea ‘with blankets over her face obstructing his airways.

Although he left Mr Walker with brain damage and a broken neck and ‘dependent on nurses for all his needs’, according to The Guardianlocal media claim that his death a few months after the attack “was not directly linked to the attack”.

Somehow he was cleared of attempted murder in Mr Walker’s case, although he was found guilty of assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

In Ms Walker’s case, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to a so-called ‘life’ sentence – but will be eligible for parole after a minimum sentence of just 34 years.

It’s rare that even very serious murders aren’t eventually paroled, even people like David McGreavy, the so-called ‘Monster of Worcester’ who murdered a baby and two young children and impaled them on railings at outside their mother’s house being released by anonymous members of the parole board after a non-public hearing, aged just 68.

Acting Detective Inspector Carolyne Van Schaick, speaking on behalf of Derbyshire Constabulary, said she hoped Culea’s ‘life’ sentence would provide ‘a degree of closure to the family and friends of Freda and Ken.

The force did not raise the question of why Culea was even in the country to carry out the attack after his conviction in 2017.
