Michael Keane’s red card at West Ham has left Perry Groves appalled, with the talkSPORT pundit suggesting the Everton centre-back is out of control and has ‘worsened’ his position.
The 29-year-old received his second booking at the London Stadium after running through Michail Antonio’s back in a game which Everton lost 2-1.
It means Keane is unavailable for the Toffees’ biggest game of the season as they head to relegation rivals Burnley on Wednesday night.
And Groves is worried about Keane’s form and questions the England international’s mentality.
“He always looks to me like he’s out of control of his own body,” Groves told talkSPORT. “You know when someone is always struggling or trying to make last minute tackles.
“If you’re on a yellow card, you can’t enter recklessly and through a player’s back, that’s actually not controlling your own mind.”
talkSPORT host Sam Matterface suggested Keane’s struggles could be down to fan pressure, with the defender performing well when fans weren’t allowed to attend games due to COVID.
However, Groves is unconvinced by Keane, adding that some of his decisions are “mind blowing”.

“He looks like he’s still struggling,” Groves added. “He’s always a little nervous and doesn’t have a clear thought process. His positional game wasn’t great.
“I know Everton as a team haven’t been particularly brilliant and haven’t been particularly well structured, but as you get older and have more experience you get better in terms of the game. of position, it actually got worse, it went the other way.
“If you’re sitting in the locker room and you say to him, ‘Explain to me what’s going through your mind’, he won’t be able to.
“It’s breathtaking. He is no longer a young player, he has experience.
