| Local News | World News

Luka Doncic had 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in his 40th career triple-double, and the Dallas Mavericks capitalized on a second-half rally to rout Memphis 112-85 on Friday night and end a the Grizzlies winning streak to 11 games.

Doncic had 18 points in the second half, connecting on 8 of 10 shots. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 16 points, and Jalen Brunson and Marquese Chriss had 15 points apiece, with Brunson adding nine assists.

“Our defense has been incredible,” said Doncic. “(The Grizzlies) have a great offense, and it’s hard to stop them, but I think we did an amazing job in the second half.”

Ja Morant led Memphis with 19 points and eight assists, Desmond Bane had 16 points and Kyle Anderson added 12. The Grizzlies lost for the first time since Dec. 23, getting little help beyond his three top scorers.

The Grizzlies were playing the second straight night and their fifth game in a week. Morant said the schedule may have finally caught up with them.

“Largely because our legs were heavy and our shots were short,” Morant said, adding later that fatigue contributed to his eight turnovers and other errors in the game.

Memphis shot 38 percent from the field and made just seven of 31 shots from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Mavericks were nearly 52% from the floor.

The Mavericks played well. Before losing 108-85 to New York on Wednesday night, Dallas had picked up six straight wins.

Dallas gained a bit of a margin in the second half, starting the third quarter shooting better than the first half. That catapulted the Mavs to an 84-73 lead entering the fourth. Doncic scored 10 points in the third to help the Mavericks build their lead, as they outscored Memphis 34-18 in the period.

When Dallas collected the first seven points of the fourth, the lead increased to 18. Grizzlies interim coach Darko Rajakovic canceled his starters with five minutes left and Memphis down to 24 points.

The lead would eventually reach 31 as Memphis managed just 12 points in the fourth quarter and 30 after halftime.

“I think the team bounced back and the team defense was great at keeping up with the offensive tempo and pace,” Dallas interim coach Sean Sweeney said. “I thought it was great all around.”

As for Memphis, the longest regular-season winning streak came to an end, but that streak propelled the Grizzlies to third place in the Western Conference.

“The first thing I said to the guys was congratulations on an amazing streak and making history for our franchise,” Rajakovic said. “Eleven straight wins. That’s huge. We were playing really good basketball.”
