Country singer Maren Morris has yet to decide whether she will go to this year’s CMA Awards amid her bitter feud with singer Jason Aldean’s wife, Brittany.
The 32-year-old ‘The Bones’ singer has won a nomination but admits she doesn’t “feel comfortable” attending the annual awards ceremony in person.
“I am very honored to have my record nominated. But I don’t know if I feel [at] home there right now,” she told the LA Times. “So many people I love will be in this room, and maybe I’ll make a decision at game time and leave.”
Morris’ hit record ‘Humble Quest’ is up for ‘Album of the Year’ while Aldean is up for ‘Music Event of the Year’ for his Carrie Underwood duet ‘If I Didn’ t Love You”.
“I don’t feel comfortable going there,” Morris told the outlet. “Some nights are fun. Others I’m just getting out of my skin. I’m not good at these events because I’m clumsy. But this time I kind of feel at peace at the idea not to go.
It all started in August when the “You Make It Easy” singer’s wife thanked her parents for “not changing” her gender during her “tomboyish phase” in an Instagram clip.
“Lmao!! I’m glad they didn’t too, because you and I wouldn’t have made it,” her husband replied in his comments section.
Morris slammed Brittany on the post, Tweeter“Is it so easy to, like, not be an asshole human? Sell your clips and zip them up, Barbie Insurrection.
Brittany then responded to Morris with “Karen Morris. Thanks for calling me Barbie. Jason Aldean and his PR firm The GreenRoom have parted ways after 17 years following Brittany’s post.
In her LA Times interview, Morris was asked if she regretted saying anything to Brittany or if she asked her team to help her respond.
“No, I just shot it. I hate feeling like I need to be the room monitor to treat people like human beings in country music. It’s exhausting,” Morris said. “But there is a very insidious culture of people who feel very comfortable being transphobic, homophobic and racist, and that they can wrap that in a joke and no one will ever call them out for it. It becomes normal for people to behave like that.
“I have no kind feelings when it comes to making fun of humans for questioning their identities, especially children,” she added. “The whole ‘When they go low, we go high’ thing doesn’t work with these people. Not every resistance movement is done with kind words. And there’s a lot worse than I could have called it. .
The 2022 CMA Awards will take place on November 9.
