Erik ten Hag is set to receive at least £70million to spend on strengthening his squad in January – but he could receive more if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves.

The Dutchman has spent over £215m on the club’s summer shopping spree, including the £85m blockbuster signing of Antony from Ajax.

Ten Hag also shelled out an additional £120m for the arrivals of South American duo Casemiro from Real Madrid and Lisandro Martinez from his former club.

According to SunSport, the 52-year-old will receive additional funds to improve his squad when the transfer window reopens in January.

The report claims the prize pool could be further improved to over £100m if United manage to offload striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese star is pocketing £450,000 a week and if the club manage to wipe his wages off the books, Ten Hag could reap the rewards.

With a good pocket of money to work with, Ten Hag will keep his eyes on the World Cup this winter in preparation for a bargain or two in January.

The United boss has failed in his bid to lure Frenkie de Jong to Old Trafford this summer despite agreeing a fee with Barcelona for the midfielder.

De Jong is still high on Ten Hag’s priority list and hasn’t ruled out another move for the 25-year-old in January despite his preference to stay in Catalonia.

United chiefs and Ten Hag have reportedly held talks over the club’s future transfer plans with the former Ajax boss who is expected to be backed by the Glazers – owners of Manchester United.

Ten Hag has revealed he needs at least three more first-team players before his side are ready to challenge Manchester City at the top of the table.

The Red Devils are back in action against Moldovan side Sheriff in the Europa League on Thursday – their final game before the international break after Sunday’s clash with Leeds was postponed.

Next up for Ten Hag’s side is the highly anticipated Manchester derby at Premier League champions Manchester City on October 2.
