Manchester United ‘delay’ Mason Greenwood announcement until September international break

Manchester United have postponed announcing a decision on Mason Greenwood’s future until after the international break.
The Red Devils player has been under internal investigation since February when the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) dropped charges against him for attempted rape, assault and coercive control.

The CPS concluded there was ‘no longer a realistic prospect of conviction’ after key witnesses withdrew their cooperation with the investigation. Greenwood has denied all allegations.
The 21-year-old hasn’t played for the club since January 2022.
But despite expectations a decision on his future would be made by the club before the start of the new season, it may not happen until September.
That’s according to The Athletic, who report that Man United now want to explain the findings of their internal investigation with key stakeholders – including the women’s team and the Fans’ Advisory Council – and the timetable has been adjusted accordingly.

The report also states that the women’s team and England stars Mary Earps, Ella Toone and Katie Zelem were approached to clear Greenwood’s return by users commenting on Man United’s message about the Lionesses’ quarter-final victory in the Premier League. World Cup.
The messages would have been seen by the players.
However, the club say the women’s team will not govern what happens, nor will the advisory board, but will be informed and asked for their opinion.
The decision could come sooner if Man United arrange communication with the female stars ahead of their return from vacation following the end of the World Cup this week.

The club says chief executive Richard Arnold will make the decision and it will be based on facts established by the club’s investigation and it is unclear what influence the Glazers will have.
Man United kick off their Premier League campaign on Monday night, exclusively live on talkSPORT.
Part of the Red Devils fans are expected to stage a protest against the prospect of Greenwood being reinstated in the team.
