United dominated possession and took advantage of more shots than Palace – 11 in the first half alone – but a goal proved elusive for much of the game.

However, Fred’s strike from the edge of the box in the 77th minute settled the game and moved United to 6th place in the Premier League table.

The goal came shortly after Palace wasted their best chance of the game when Jordan Ayew failed to convert a shot into the net after a corner kick.

“With a practice session and quite a few conversations with the team … which they did today, defensively we had full control of the game”, Rangnick says beIN Sports After the game.

“Maybe a couple of situations where it was a little dangerous, but other than that we had total control of the game. In the end we deserved to win,” he said.

United sacked manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer two weeks ago, with Michael Carrick taking over as interim manager.
Rangnick, previously responsible for sports and development at Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow, was then appointed the club’s interim manager until the end of the season, after which he will remain at the club in a consultant role for two more years.
Since parting ways with Solskjaer, United have won three and drawn in one of their last four games, most recently a thrilling 3-2 win over Arsenal on Wednesday.
