NEW DORP, Staten Island (WABC) – It was a Christmas tragedy on Staten Island where a love triangle took a deadly turn.

A man was found dead in the hallway of a building on Clove Road in New Dorp. The suspect is under arrest and faces serious charges.

Investigators say it turns out that the two men involved were involved with the same woman and that one came to confront the other.

The neighbors were woken up just after 7 a.m. by the chaos. Rafael Ramos, 36, came to confront Emmanuel Diaz, who lives in the building. Police said the two men were involved with the same woman. They say Ramos was armed with a knife and entered Diaz’s apartment through an unlocked door, and there was a fight.

As the brawl escalated, detectives said Diaz suffocated Ramos to death, then dragged the body down the hall – his wife and young children – aged four and six, were inside.

Detectives say Diaz now faces multiple charges, including murder and strangulation.
