Man killed on Wallisville Road in northeast Harris County


Wallisville Road was closed in both directions as deputies investigated.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A 65-year-old man died after being hit by a van while crossing the causeway in northeast Harris County on Thursday morning, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

Deputies said the victim was doing his daily exercises and crossing the street on his way home when he was hit by a black lorry driven by a 35-year-old father as he was on his way to drop off his daughter at school .

Deputies said it happened at 6:30 a.m. on Wallisville Road, just east of Beltway 8. It was very dark in the area at the time of the accident because the streetlights had not yet been turned on.

The victim was not using a pedestrian crossing when she was hit, deputies said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver involved in the fatal accident remained at the scene.

Deputies said the case would be forwarded to the district attorney’s office once the investigation is complete. They added that charges are not likely.
