eicester fell woefully short of a monumental comeback against leaders Manchester City on Boxing Day – losing 6-3 after striking back after four goals.
Pep Guardiola’s side showed no sign of a Christmas hangover as they rushed into a huge early lead, with the opening goal courtesy of Kevin De Bruyne after just five minutes.
Leicester survived yet another penalty until the break and improved a lot in the second half. James Maddison returned home at the break before Ademola Lookman calmed the Etihad crowd with a second, in the 59th minute.
Moments later, former Citizens forward Kelechi Iheanacho, who had created the other two goals, buried his own effort after Maddison hit the crossbar.
Sadly, City were able to come off late with Aymeric Laporte heading into a corner from Mahrez and allay officials’ fears of closing their three-point gap with Liverpool.
Sterling made it 6-3 in 87 minutes, again from a corner after Ruben Dias was knocked down.
