With the State of the Union address looming this week, the poll found a majority of Americans, 62%, think Biden has accomplished “not much” or “little or nothing” as he completes the two-year milestone of his presidency. By comparison, 36% of respondents say Biden has accomplished “a lot” or “a fair amount.” One percent has no opinion.

The majority of people also disagree with Biden’s handling of key issues:

  • Economy: 37% approve, 58% disapprove and 4% have no opinion
  • Illegal border crossings at the US-Mexico border: 28% approve, 59% disapprove and 13% have no opinion
  • Situation in Russia and Ukraine: 38% approve, 48% disapprove and 13% have no opinion

It also comes as Biden – who would be 86 at the end of a second term – is due to deliver his State of the Union address on Tuesday. He has still not officially announced whether he will run for a second term in 2024. However, he recently teased reporters about running while on vacation in the Virgin Islands with family members. It was reported that he was preparing a team for 2024.

The same poll also found former President Donald Trump, a Republican, to have the edge over Biden in a hypothetical matchup in 2024. The poll finds 48% would choose Trump, while just 45% say they would vote for re-elect Biden.
