Majority says Joe Biden hasn’t accomplished much during the presidency
Americans think President Joe Biden accomplished little in the first two years of his presidency, the most recent Washington Post-An ABC News poll indicates one day until he delivers the State of the Union address on Tuesday night.
With the State of the Union address looming this week, the poll found a majority of Americans, 62%, think Biden has accomplished “not much” or “little or nothing” as he completes the two-year milestone of his presidency. By comparison, 36% of respondents say Biden has accomplished “a lot” or “a fair amount.” One percent has no opinion.
The majority of people also disagree with Biden’s handling of key issues:
- Economy: 37% approve, 58% disapprove and 4% have no opinion
- Illegal border crossings at the US-Mexico border: 28% approve, 59% disapprove and 13% have no opinion
- Situation in Russia and Ukraine: 38% approve, 48% disapprove and 13% have no opinion
It also comes as Biden – who would be 86 at the end of a second term – is due to deliver his State of the Union address on Tuesday. He has still not officially announced whether he will run for a second term in 2024. However, he recently teased reporters about running while on vacation in the Virgin Islands with family members. It was reported that he was preparing a team for 2024.
The same poll also found former President Donald Trump, a Republican, to have the edge over Biden in a hypothetical matchup in 2024. The poll finds 48% would choose Trump, while just 45% say they would vote for re-elect Biden.
One percent say they would vote for someone else, three percent wouldn’t vote for any candidate, two percent wouldn’t vote, and one percent don’t have an opinion.
THE Washington Post-The ABC News poll, conducted Jan. 27 through Feb. 1 of 1,003 Americans nationwide, has a margin of error of 3.5%.
