Magic Johnson “doesn’t look forward to” HBO’s Showtime Lakers series

Magic Johnson will not be tuning in to HBO’s upcoming Showtime Lakers series.

Ahead of the release of “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” TMZ asked the NBA legend what he thought of the series.

“Hmm, no,” Johnson replied when asked if he was excited about it.

“We have different shows coming out. I have one, then you have [Lakers owner and president] Jeanie Buss had one on upcoming Showtime. These are the ones I look forward to.

“Like I said, I’m not looking forward to it. I’ll leave it at that.”

Johnson then said he would not watch him.

“Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty” tells the story of the Showtime Lakers, who won five championships and made eight trips to the NBA Finals in the 1980s. Based on a book by Jeff Pearlman, the show “casts a look at a team that defined its era, both on and off the pitch ”.

The No.1 pick in the 1979 NBA Draft, Magic has been central to the team’s success, adding three Final MVP awards and three regular season MVP awards to his five titles.

“HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is the new, fast-breaking drama series that travels back in time to chronicle the professional and personal lives of the Los Angeles Lakers of the 1980s, one of the most revered and dominant dynasties Sport.”

The cast includes John C. Reilly, who stars as Jerry Buss, Jason Clarke as Jerry West, Adrien Brody as Pat Riley, and Quincy Isaiah as Magic.
