Luis Diaz holder, and no Diogo Jota despite the poor form of Mohamed Salah

Jurgen Klopp is certainly spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing his starting XI, especially when it comes to his first three.

Liverpool are set to take on title rivals Manchester City this Sunday, and the German boss will be keen to select his squad well to set the tone in the race for the Premier League spot.

Liverpool new boy Luis Diaz impressed as he netted his side’s third goal to give the Reds a breather in their Champions League quarter-final second leg.

When it comes to attacking options, the Reds boast Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, all of whom are more than capable of putting City’s defense under pressure.

And that’s not even taking into account Takumi Minamino, Divock Origi and Harvey Elliott.

But while it will be difficult for Klopp to choose, former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has offered the front line he would select at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

“Well Firmino won’t play,” he told talkSPORT Breakfast, “When he arrived he looked discolored, I didn’t like the way he played yesterday. I would probably play … Ah, it’s difficult.

“After yesterday’s performance, Diaz probably has to play. I would probably play with the guys who played [against Benfica]probably starts with [Sadio] mane and [Mohamed] Salah on the wing, or Diaz on the wing and Mane and Salah both playing up front.

“But again [Diogo] Jota is always a player you can rely on, but I would probably start with the three who started yesterday.

Elsewhere on the pitch, Liverpool’s players emerged from their Champions League quarter-final first leg unscathed except for a cut to the head for Fabinho that required a bandage.

The Reds have also opted to rest key players, including midfielder and captain Jordan Henderson – who came on as a second-half substitute – and centre-back Joel Matip.

Now or never comes to mind when it comes to this game, and the Liverpool boss will want to go as hard as possible with his starting XI.

In goal, the obvious choice for Liverpool will be Alisson and having kept 17 clean sheets this Premier League campaign, the Brazilian will be trusted to keep City’s attacking threat at bay.

Konaté is likely to be on the bench for the draw despite opening the scoring in Lisbon given he has started just eight league games this season

Forming the backline, despite Ibrahima Konate being on the scoresheet at Benfica, centre-back Matip is set to come back as he has been Klopp’s centre-back in the league on 24 occasions this season.

It’s also likely that captain Henderson will join the starting XI to provide leadership throughout the title clash, meaning Naby Keita will be rested after missing 89 minutes in Lisbon.

Although Jota has offered a huge boost to Liverpool’s attack this season, as Hamann pointed out, Diaz’s electric return to Portugal on Tuesday night justifies a Sunday departure – making Klopp’s front three unchanged from the middle of the week.

But can Hamann’s front line do the trick in the title showdown? We will find out on Sunday.
