Luis Diaz has been compared to Arsenal legend Paul Merson as ex-Liverpool player reveals how the Colombian can cause ‘a lot of problems’ for Real Madrid

Luis Diaz has been compared to a former Arsenal hero, with the Colombian star tipped to give Real Madrid a big headache in the Champions League final.

Diaz made a dream start to life at Anfield, fitting into the team with dazzling ease – his skills and goals quickly endeared him to the Reds faithful.

Diaz, who joined Porto in a £40million deal in January, has six goals and five appearances for Liverpool

He’s only been at the club for four months, but Diaz is already one win away from his third major trophy with Liverpool, who face Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday night – LIVE on talkSPORT.

The Colombian is expected to get the nod from Jurgen Klopp, having developed a good understanding with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, to start in the final showpiece as the Reds target the No.7 European Cup.

And former Liverpool star David James has suggested he is most likely to hurt the La Liga champions at the Stade de France.

However, according to James, there is one key area where Diaz can improve.

“He reminds me of Paul Merson,” former Liverpool goalkeeper James told talkSPORT.com with Genting Casino.

“Paul Merson won league titles, he’s not an average player we’re talking about, but he was so right-handed and I see the same thing when I look at Diaz.

Diaz already has the FA Cup and Carabao Cup in the bag and Real Madrid better not show it on his right foot

“I love him and what I love about him is that there is an area that can be improved and he is already so good that he can get even better.

“He’s so reliant on his right foot, I think someone needs to put him aside and do some work with his left foot because he doesn’t like to cross the ball with his left foot.”

“If you work on it, all of a sudden he’s going to get close to defenders and they won’t know where he’s going to go,” continued James.

“If you have Diaz you know he’s going to go to his right or go down to the ground with his left because he doesn’t have the confidence with his left. He prefers to use the outside of his right foot rather than his left foot.

“But he could be Liverpool’s hero by the end of the game on Saturday. I think to all the players that he has the skills to cause a lot of problems for Real Madrid.
