Lsg relies on batting prowess to come well against Sunrisers Hyderabad

With their campaign back on track after a poor start, newcomers Lucknow Super Giants will rely on their batting prowess to overtake Sunrisers Hyderabad in an Indian Premier League game on Tuesday.

LSG didn’t have the best start to their debut season, losing by five wickets to fellow IPL debutants Gujarat Titans.

But they roared in style as they beat defending champions Chennai Super Kings from six wickets in a high-scoring affair in their second game. In skipper KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, LSG boast a formidable opening pair, and they proved their worth against CSK by scoring 40 and 61 in a 99-run first-wicket stand.

West Indian Evin Lewis broke an unbeaten 55 on 23 in a tough 211 chase against CSK while, in Deepak Hooda, LSG have a reliable mid-level hitter. Young Ayush Badoni, who has stormed the current IPL with his six-hit prowess, is a treat to watch and would look to continue his fine form.

Badoni hit a 54 from 41 on his IPL debut against the Titans and followed that up with another entertaining nine-ball unbeaten 19 run against CSK. But Manish Pandey’s form will be a source of concern for LSG, which also boasts versatile hitters like Krunal Pandya and Jason Holder, among others.

On the bowling front, Avesh Khan, Sri Lankan Dushmantha Chameera, Andrew Tye and Ravi Bishnoi have been the main wicket takers for LSG in both matches so far but they need to be more disciplined to contain the flow of the run . The Sunrisers, meanwhile, were blown away by the Rajasthan Royals’ batting effort in a 61-point loss in their opener.

Comprising a mediocre squad, Sunrisers players need to punch above their weight. While the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/29) produced an economic spell, the likes of Romario Shepherd (1/33), Umran Malik (2/39), T Natarajan (2/43) and Washington Sundar fled against RR.

And Sunrisers team management will expect a much improved performance from their bowling unit in the upcoming matches. If bowling is a concern, the Sunrisers batting department also appeared wary against RR and would rely heavily on skipper Kane Williamson, Rahul Tripathy, Nicholas Pooran, Abdul Samad and Abhishek Sharma to deliver the goods.

In their only game so far, South African Aiden Markran went an undefeated 57-41 run, while Sundar hit a blazing 14-40, albeit in a losing cause. The Sunrisers would be looking for a full and complete performance to register their first win of the season.
