With so many new shows and movies to choose from, let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it.

New movies and shows to stream this weekend: Love, Lizzo, Meet me in the bathroom, Hip Hop Nutcracker + More

This week, I’m grateful for the music that has been the soundtrack of my life, and it seems like each of the new releases we cover here have helped define certain seasons that I’ve experienced. First, there’s the brand new documentary Love, Lizzo on HBO Max, which features the music and many words of wisdom from pop star-slash-positivity guru Lizzo, whose music has been a staple — in a good way — for several years. Going back about 20 years, there is the Showtime documentary Meet me in the bathroomabout the rise of New York’s most popular indie bands in the early 2000s. As someone who spent my 20s in New York just as these bands burst onto the scene, it’s impossible not to feel nostalgic (also, old) reliving the magic and music of that era. And on Disney+, the new special Hip Hop Nutcracker puts a new spin on a holiday tradition that many people, myself included, look forward to every year.

Want to hear more about these highlights and the rest of the weekend’s stellar lineup? Check out the rest of the hit titles new to streaming this weekend below:

New on Disney+ on November 25: Hip Hop Nutcracker

There have been many, many versions of Tchaikovsky Nutcracker over the past century or so, but none have brought it to life like the new Disney+ release, Hip Hop Nutcracker Is. This fresh, modern take mixes much of traditional music and ballet (there are appearances from ballet greats Mikhail Baryshnikov and Tiler Peck) with hip hop choreography and dancers that include Caché Melvin like Maria-Clara and the Jabbawockeez. as part of the snowflake set. Tying it all together is your MC for the show, Rev Run of Run DMC. Whether Nutcracker is a tradition in your home, kick off the season with a new version that everyone in the family will love.

New to HBO Max November 24: Love, Lizzo

Filmed for three years, Love, Lizzo is a documentary featuring one of the most engaging and outspoken artists of recent years, Lizzo. The flute superstar’s road to success was unclear, yet she transcended genres and captured the hearts of nearly everyone who heard her music. As we watch her perform and detail the story of her childhood to her current status as a bitch, she hammers home the message woven through her music, about the importance of being true to yourself and embracing everything. what makes you different.

New to Showtime on November 24: Meet me in the bathroom

There’s no music that defines the early 2000s better than New York rock and roll bands like The Strokes, Interpol and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Meet me in the bathroom, the new documentary based on the oral history book of the same name, is a time machine that will take you back 20 years to experience that sound all over again. Featuring archival footage and interviews with the bands and tastemakers of the day – many of whom are still around and making music, just a little grayer at the temples – the film is a time capsule of the post-9/11 era in New York when artists created a signature vibe that is still synonymous with the city in which it was created.
