Liverpool want to sign Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen to rival Alisson as Caoimhin Kelleher looks set for summer departure from Jurgen Klopp’s Reds

Liverpool are eyeing a move for Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht as their potential new first-choice goalkeeper.

Alisson is currently the Reds’ preferred option between the sticks, with the Brazilian having been highly influential since leaving Roma in 2018.

Despite being only 30, it looks like Jurgen Klopp’s side are already planning for the future.

The Sun reports that the Merseyside red half are interested in 20-year-old Verbruggen.

Standing at 6ft 4in, the Dutchman has kept five clean sheets in 15 appearances for Anderlecht.

Verbruggen is a key target for them this summer, with Caoimhin Kelleher set to leave the club.

As a result, Klopp’s side will have to find their replacement, someone who will rival Alisson for the No.1 spot in goal.

Verbruggen could very well emerge as the answer, but Liverpool can only act once they know more about Kelleher’s future.

The Irishman is Liverpool’s second choice behind Alisson, with the 24-year-old playing mainly in cup games and having been described as “exceptional” by his manager in the past.

He has made 20 appearances for the Reds in five seasons but only three of those have come in the current campaign.

Liverpool are holders of both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, but have already been knocked out of both this season.

These coincided with poor Premier League form as Klopp’s side, surprisingly, were 10th after being runners-up last season.

They face a tough test against local rivals Everton on Monday – live on talkSPORT – a side who picked up a huge win over Arsenal last weekend.

Sean Dyche has upset the Reds in recent seasons and will be keen to do so again at his new club when they move to Anfield.
