Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reveals transfer stance after Cody Gakpo deal as Jude Bellingham links continue

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has issued a transfer warning to fans following the signing of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.

The Reds landed the exciting striker in a £44m deal when the January transfer window opened – but he could well be their only entrant.

Klopp is honest about Liverpool transfer business

Klopp’s Merseysiders are in the hunt for a central midfielder, with Jude Bellingham a long-term transfer target.

Liverpool have also been interested in Argentina’s World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez, but he appears set to join Chelsea in a club-record £106million deal.

But, in a framk admission, it looks like Klopp needs to understand that the Anfield club can’t spend a lot of money this month and any further offers must be wise.

“I’m now seven years and a few months here and every transfer window is pretty much the same, we talk about these things like money doesn’t play a role. Like who cares? It’s never that way you could just spend money,” Klopp told reporters.

“I don’t want to disappoint anyone, but we signed an exceptional player like Cody Gakpo and the next thing you can read is ‘who next? It’s like we don’t have a team, honestly! We cannot play like a monopoly. We never did and I don’t understand it.

“Of course, we can’t just spend and surprisingly never could. We’ve always sorted out our situations and that’s a big part of my philosophy, to really work with faith and trust with the players we have and not constantly question them and tell them we need another player to this or that position.

“With Cody it’s obvious not only because we have this void now, the quality he has, the timing is perfect and if we wait until the summer he will be more expensive or someone another would have chosen it.

“There’s a lot of potential, it just makes sense and the games we’ll have in the next few years, the games won’t have less, we’ll have more games and all those sorts of things.

“It’s clear that you need real quality in all positions and probably two teams of the same level that we can rotate and that’s what we’re obviously trying to prepare. That is to say that someone is now surprised when I say that we are not now going to start pouring money – that should be very clear.

“Again, if there is something we can do – and that means the right player and the right financial situation – we will do it, and if not, then no.”
