The French women’s team dominated Cameroon 4-0 on Saturday in Beauvais in a preparation match for the Euro, with half of the training made up of usual substitutes. Melvine Malard (32nd), Griedge Mbock (38th) and Ouleymata Sarr (58th, 62nd), came into play at the break in place of Marie-Antoinette Katoto, allowed the Bleues to win this first friendly.
Les Bleues fans vibrated: “We had fun. We came as a family and it was great!”, Says a woman at the microphone of Europe 1. “I am always impressed by the level of play that can bring this French women’s team”, adds a spectator. Les Bleues won the list of thirteen games without defeat.
“Not everything was successful”
But Corinne Deacon, coach of the France women’s team, is not entirely satisfied with this performance: “I think we had a little trouble getting into the match, it took us a good 20 minutes to put our game in place. We also lacked technical accuracy, which did not make our task easier at the start of the match, but we were able to remain serious”.
“We still have things to work on, not everything was perfect, we knew it and we accept it. We only scored one goal in the game and three from set pieces, so I think we can do better. (…) The players were serious, disciplined, they respected the game plan and they tried things. Not everything was successful but there were a lot of difficulties. ‘tests and it’s interesting for the future, it gives them confidence,” she adds.
Les Bleues still have the opportunity to work, especially next Friday in Orleans against Vietnam. The French face Italy on July 10 in Rotherham, England, at the start of their group stage. They will then meet Belgium and Iceland on July 14 and 18 in the same city.
