It had been claimed that the Leicester boss was ahead of fellow candidate Antonio Conte to replace the Norwegian if the results continued to fall at Old Trafford.

But Rodgers, 48, insisted he is focusing on the Foxes ahead of Saturday’s game with Arsenal.

“I don’t even think about it,” the Northern Irishman told reporters on Friday. “I’m sure the fans are probably fed up. In Leicester there is always a connection.

“My focus is always here with Leicester and the development of the football club and the honors challenge. The managers, staff and players all have the same vision.”

Rodgers’ side sit in ninth place in the Premier League ahead of Arsenal’s visit, having rebounded from a slow start to remain five unbeaten in all competitions

Further improvements are underway, according to the manager, with Leicester still not “at the top” he expects.

He added: “I think that’s an area we need to focus on. We need to focus on our performance.

“We’re not quite at the top but we’ve got that spirit and that commitment back. We’ve seen the quality of the spells.

“We’re not playing quite at the level we want or are capable of, but we are going back and that is a testament to the mentality of the players that we are getting wins.”
