Lauren Boebert’s Q&A in Colorado high school condemned by newspaper

The Colorado newspaper, The Durango Herald, denounced the recent controversial visit of far-right representative Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) to a high school.

Boebert’s speech and Q&A with Dolores de Dolores High School students on Wednesday left the outlet “uncomfortable” because “his speech ventured beyond governance into political territory.” , its board wrote in an op-ed on Friday.

“Like her or otherwise, Boebert is a polarizing politician,” the Herald said of Boebert, a Donald Trump follower who has in the past embraced QAnon conspiracy theories. Ahead of the event, representatives for gun-loving Boebert were forced, amid parental fears, to confirm that she would not be carrying a gun during the visit.

According to the newspaper, Boebert spoke of “moral decay” and railed against student freedoms that have been “trampled upon during the pandemic.”

“Apparently she also told the students that they should know about these issues and motivate them to stand up for their freedom,” the council added. “Come on! That’s Boebert’s mark on stage in front of students without their parents present.

The Herald suggested that Boebert may have inspired students with “his personal journey from manager at McDonald’s to representative in the hallowed halls of Congress”.

Instead, she “did not separate herself and her politics from the machinery of government”, he charged.
