LA Mayor Karen Bass said no to Kim Kardashian’s Skims gift

Did Kim Kardashian really offer shapewear to the mayor of Los Angeles?
OK, maybe it wasn’t. Exactly shapewear. Kim K.’s underwear and loungewear brand sells all kinds of goodies, from candy-pink lace gloves to terrycloth towels to crochet string bikinis. But whatever was in the bag, the gift didn’t stick.
Earlier this month, Kris Jenner co-hosted a party at a star-studded mansion in Beverly Hills to celebrate investor Michael Kives’ venture and the Milken Institute’s 2023 Global Conference, which brings together influencers to discuss “the advancement of a prosperous world” with respect to finance, technology and philanthropy. Anyone who seemed to flock to the Kives estate to save the world while hanging out, and many seemed to walk away with a major takeaway: a Skims loot bag.
TMZ posted a photo of LA Mayor Karen Bass leaving the event with a Skims bag in tow, but her spokesperson Zach Seidl told The Times in early May that the spoils would soon be returned.
According to a gift list tweeted Friday by Ben Welsh of Reuters, formerly of The Times, as promised, the mayor declined the Kardashian family’s $600 gift, which included Skims products, a messenger, alcohol, a bottle of hot sauce, makeup and a face light. It’s unclear why Bass dropped the expensive products — his spokesperson didn’t respond to The Times’ request for comment.
That said, in May 2022, Kardashian endorsed Rick Caruso, Bass’s opponent in the mayoral race. The beauty mogul said in an Instagram story that she thinks the developer could “help fight crime in our city, which is such a big problem and super scary.”
According to the listing, Bass also declined a $229 gift from the LA Dodgers that included a jersey, yearbook, hoodie and bag. Bass accepted the majority of the 130 gifts noted on the list, including gummy bears and perfume from anonymous voters and pastries and wine from Kuwait’s Consul General Nawaf Al-Saied.
It’s been a week full of rejection for Kardashian. Remarks about the challenges of single parenthood didn’t land well for the reality TV star, who is raising her four children in a $60 million mansion in Hidden Hills near Calabasas. She also makes ends meet with $200,000 in child support every month.
And as if that weren’t enough, Kardashian worries she’s having trouble getting a date.
“Who will ever want to go out with me? I have four children. I’m in my 40s,” she said during the Season 3 premiere of Hulu’s “The Kardashians.”
“I’m single. And not ready to mingle, and that’s fine.
