Kelly Clarkson nabs 4-chair singer Cait Martin
Blake Shelton may be the king of “The Voice,” but Kelly Clarkson is its reigning queen.
Clarkson was determined to catch singer Cait Martin in the fifth round of blind auditions on Monday night, spinning in her chair before trainers Shelton, Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper followed suit. The 32-year-old singer caused a stir with her rendition of Harry Styles’ torch song “As It Was.”
“I was blown away,” Horan said. “You just kept so much control in the higher parts and had so much dynamics and beautiful moments in the song, and I would love for you to be a member of Team Niall.”
But Clarkson was quick to point out his quick turn for Martin. “I literally believed in you light years before these guys turned around,” she said. “I don’t know why it took them so long.”
Clarkson’s speed worked in his favor, with Martin choosing Clarkson as his coach.
“Today has been a rollercoaster ride, but as always, Mom came out on top,” Clarkson said. “I’m so glad I turned around quickly because I had to fight for her.”
Here’s what else happened during Monday’s episode.
Blake Shelton seduces the singer with a giant foam finger
Texas singer Kylee Dayne dazzled with her soulful cover of Maggie Rogers’ “Fallingwater,” earning chair tricks from Shelton, Horan and Chance.
“I thought the performance was amazing,” Chance said. “I feel like you’re a classic definition of a star. You’re just someone who, to me, seems a bit eclectic and different.
Shelton was ready to pull out all the stops to win over the 19-year-old. The country music superstar pressed his button during his speech to Dayne, who lowered an enlarged red foam finger from the ceiling that read “choose Blake” – a nod to Shelton’s tactic of pointing at the top of his head as a singer decides on his trainer.
“Niall is already stealing my finger and it’s worked for him a couple of times, but I just want everyone here to know there’s only one king of ‘The Voice’,” he said. Shelton said. “And I can only use this gag once this season, and I chose to use it on you.”
Shelton’s finger power is still strong, with Dayne opting to join Team Blake.
“I wasn’t going to settle for no,” Shelton said. “So, I had to remove the big finger.”

Blake Shelton vows to stop helping Niall Horan in competition
Teenage singer Gina Miles wowed Clarkson and Horan with her unique tone and tender rendition of Katy Perry’s “The One That Got Away.”
“I’m a really big fan of your voice,” Clarkson told the 18-year-old. “Obviously I’ve been doing pop music for 20 years, so I’m fine and I feel like we would work really well together.”
Horan was also shooting Miles, but always gave his fellow trainer props. “Kelly is one of the best singers of the last 10 generations,” he said. “Whoever you choose, you are in good hands.”
“It really was a battle to the death,” Shelton said sarcastically, mocking Horan’s cordial tone. “The gloves really came off on this one.”

Shelton even attempted to help Horan, passing him a note explaining Clarkson’s shortcomings as a coach. “Kelly can’t train nerves,” read Horan.
Luckily for Horan, the good guys don’t always end up last, as Miles chose Team Niall.
“I don’t know if in Ireland it’s common practice to pass a note on someone and then read the note aloud to the person,” Shelton said. “This is the last time I’ll help this kid.”

Kelly Clarkson Steals Chance the Rapper Singer
Singer JB Somers scored double chair laps from Clarkson and Chance with his emotional performance of Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You.”
“When I turned around, it was even more beautiful to see you play. You exude so much empathy and emotion,” Clarkson said. you choose.”
In an effort to connect with Somers, Chance dropped the name of a famous friend who also reinvented the ’70s folk tune.
“A really good friend of mine covered that same Joni Mitchell song, and his initials are JB,” Chance said, referring to singer-songwriter James Blake. “I would love to give you the platform to be able to be yourself on TV.”

While the 31-year-old seemed influenced by Chance’s ‘young blood’ as a first-year coach, Clarkson was not done. “I was turned down, and I’m still going because that’s how much I believe you,” she said. “I am not defeated. I continue.”
Clarkson’s persistence paid off, with Somers choosing Team Kelly.
“I wanted JB so badly, and I got him and I’m so happy,” Clarkson said, adding that he had “the opportunity to not just be in the finals, but to win this show.”
