Justice investigates role of consulting firms in Emmanuel Macron’s 2019 and 2022 campaigns – POLITICO

Two judicial inquiries were opened at the end of October by the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF) for heads of “favoritism” and “non-compliant keeping of campaign accounts and reduction of accounting elements” in connection with the relations maintained by Emmanuel Macron and several consulting firms, announced the national financial prosecutor in a press release.

The investigation carried out by the PNF is interested in the “conditions of intervention of consulting firms in the electoral campaigns of 2017 and 2022” of the President of the Republic.

According to Le Parisien, which revealed the information, justice is also interested “in the conditions for awarding certain public contracts” passed by the government with the American consulting firm McKinsey. Contacted, the Elysée declined to comment.

McKinsey has been under fire for more than a year since POLITICO revealed the company’s role with the government in organizing the coronavirus vaccine campaign. This information had prompted the Senate to create a commission of inquiry into the influence of consulting firms. This work has given rise to a bill, which must be examined by the National Assembly.

At the end of March, a first preliminary investigation into McKinsey had been opened by the PNF for “aggravated laundering of tax evasion” following statements by representatives of the cabinet before the senators.

McKinsey, for its part, recently decided not to be a candidate for the call for tenders to sign the framework contract on the services of consulting firms with the French state, POLITICO informed this week.
