The Scot, previously undisputed world light welterweight champion, will be in action for the first time since February last year when he controversially beat Jack Catterall by split decision, with many believing the latter should have won .
Taylor, now 32, became just the sixth male boxer to unify the division’s four major titles, which he held from May 2021 for 12 months.
The “Tartan Tornado” has won his 19 professional fights, 13 by knockout, heading into this weekend’s fight in New York, and goes into the fight as a favorite.
Taylor’s opponent Lopez is also a former unified world champion, holding four belts in the lightweight division between 2019 and 2021.
The 25-year-old American is 18-1 heading into Saturday’s fight, with his only loss coming in November 2021, also at MSG, to George Kambosos Jr to lose all four belts he held.
‘El Brooklyn’ has recovered from the loss however, winning both of his fights since then, most recently a split decision win over Sandor Martin in December as he seeks to become a two-division champion by beating Josh Taylor this weekend. -end.
Taylor enters the fight as the favorite to defend both belts at 4/7, with Lopez priced at 11/8 to win, and a draw priced at 14/1.
