Newcastle’s chances of survival in the Premier League received a huge boost with a 2-0 victory over Wolves, but goalkeeper Jose Sa was far from happy.

January signing Chris Wood picked up a 72nd-minute penalty to decide the tie, but Sa was furious at the decision to award the kick.

Wood had already put the ball in the net in the first half when Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron combined to create a moment of magic.

Guimaraes offered Wood a tap-in which he eventually converted as he lay on the floor, but an offside in the build-up prevented a sluggish first half from coming to life.

Two other Newcastle technicians decided the matter instead, Allan Saint-Maximin shrewdly putting Joelinton on the counter with neat skill on the halfway line.

The Brazilian then found Wood in the box, who hit the bridge on a challenge from Sa, setting up for the match winner.
