Jon Batiste winks at ancestors after top 2022 Grammy nominations

The acclaimed musician, who co-composed the 2020 Disney and Pixar film “Soul”, has racked up names in a wide range of categories. Her song “Freedom” and her album “We Are” were recognized in the general industry categories for Record of the Year and Album of the Year, respectively.

Batiste’s work on “Soul” earned him three nominations in the following categories: Best Improvised Jazz Solo, Best Jazz Instrumental Album and Best Soundtrack for Visual Media.

The Music Director and Conductor of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” also won nominations in the remaining categories: Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Album, Best American Roots Performance, Best American Roots Song, Best Contemporary Classical Composition. and best video clip.

“Wow !! Thank you God !!” he tweeted. “I love everyone! I am so grateful to my collaborators and to my ancestors … 11!”

After Batiste in the nominations was Doja Cat and Justin Bieber, who have each scored eight nods this year.

The 64th Grammy Awards will air live on CBS on January 31. A host has not yet been announced.
