Joe Joyce says Oleksandr Usyk could knock out Anthony Joshua in rematch and suggests Ukrainian kept training during Russian invasion

British heavyweight contender Joe Joyce believes Oleksandr Usyk could knock out Anthony Joshua in their rematch later this summer.

AJ lost his heavyweight belts in a decision loss to Usyk in September, but days later he activated his contract clause to force a second fight due to take place in Saudi Arabia in August.

Joyce, who is the No. 1 ranked heavyweight with the WBO and in line for a title shot currently in Usyk’s possession, believes his countryman made a mistake in rushing into this rematch.

“Robert Garcia, I think it’s a good choice for him. He’s more of an attacking coach and I think it should be a good choice, but he only has a short time to work on stuff with him before the rematch with Usyk,” Joyce told IFL TV.

“Usyk has beaten him before so he’ll have an edge and know what to do to do it again and he won’t be like [Andy] Ruiz, like eating tons of Snickers bars and gaining weight.

The WBO, WBA and IBF heavyweight champion flew from the UK to Ukraine in February to defend his country from Russian invasion alongside The Klitschko Brothers, Vasyl Lomachenko and MMA champion Yaroslav Amosov.

Joyce claims the man who beat him in his amateur career continued to train despite being in a war zone

According to ‘The Juggernaut’ sources, despite being at war with Russia, Usyk has continued to train for his highly anticipated rematch with Joshua which he believes could end in disaster for the Briton.

“He went to war, apparently. According to the street, he could have been training all the time. So he will be in a good position to arrive,” said Joyce.

“He will know exactly what to do to beat Joshua again. It’s up to Joshua to make the fight like the first fight should have been and correct his mistakes.

“I don’t know, maybe Usyk can knock Joshua out. Let’s see how the fight goes. It’s an exciting fight to watch, and I’m excited to watch it.
