JESSE WATTERS: Ron DeSantis launches unconventional campaign, takes aim at Trump’s COVID response
Fox News host Jesse Watters weighs in on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ glitchy presidential launch on Twitter on “Jesse Watters Primetime.”
RON DESANTIS RIPS TRUMP OVER STAGE ONE ACT, VOW TO REPEAL IT: ‘ESSENTIALLY A JAILBREAK BILL’
JESSE WATTERS: It’s been three days since Ron DeSantis announced his race for the president and the gloves are removed. But before I go into details, I was sidelined with food poisoning, so I never had a chance to analyze the Twitter launch. He decided to buck tradition, teamed up with Musk to announce on Twitter without a video.
Now, in some ways it was effective – as it was ready to go, it got the buzz. But he missed an opportunity to show his face to America. It was perhaps the greatest moment of his career, and there is no video of it. There was nothing to broadcast on the networks, no clips to distribute and loop for days, nothing to post online. Newspapers and websites couldn’t even display the ad image on the front page. Plus you run the risk of glitches and it could have been executed better.
But on the other hand, his team says the risk paid off because the guy has raised a ton of money since then. He raised over $8 million in 24 hours and that’s a record. And now that the Twitter launch is complete, DeSantis is sticking to a more traditional campaign approach. He does the media blitz, Fox, talk radio, podcasts. And next week he’s hosting events in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. So he’s got his foot on the accelerator and he’s aiming for Trump, who is looking to neutralize Ron’s strength on COVID.
There is definitely room for DeSantis attacks Trump with the Fauci thing, and it’s going to be interesting to watch. But will COVID really be a factor in the Republican primary, likely not covered in the past. So if DeSantis is going to use COVID against Trump, he has to get away with it tomorrow. Why is this important in 2024? I have yet to hear him raise this issue in the future.
