Actor Jason Alexander wrote a poignant farewell on Sunday to the late Estelle Harris, who played his pushy and always curious mother on the TV sitcom “Seinfeld.”
Harris’ character, Estelle Costanza, was the mother of George Costanza of Alexander and wife of Frank, played by Jerry Stiller, from 1992 to 1998. Stiller died in 2020 and Harris died Saturday at the age of 93 years.
While George was a grumpy son, Alexander adored his mother on television:
Harris once admitted that his often whiny, over-the-top persona was a “pain in the neck.” Still, she told the Pittsburg Post-Gazette in 1998 that “she’s the mother that everyone loves.”
“Blacks, Asians, WASPs, Italians, Jews — they all say, ‘Oh, you’re like my mother,'” she once told the Chicago Tribune.
