Jairzinho Rozenstruik punched Alistair Overeem so hard his lip seemed to explode in brutal UFC win

Jairzinho Rozenstruik is back in action this weekend as he takes on Poland’s Marcin Tybura in the UFC 273 prelims.

The 34-year-old heavyweight comes into play in Florida on Saturday night following a loss to Curtis Blaydes in September, but remains a very dangerous man who won’t stop fighting – Alistair Overeem will tell you that as well. *WARNING – GRAPHIC IMAGE BELOW

The two fought back in 2019 and Overeem was in control and seemed headed for victory until some might call a “Hail Mary” straight from Rozenstruik stopped the fight with four seconds left.

Overeem fell to the ground and found that part of his lip was missing in one of the most horrific wounds you’ll ever see.

“That’s what we worked for. One shot, one kill,” Rozenstruik said after the 4:56 knockout in the fifth round, adding that he knew how much time he had left, suggesting that if his opponent had kept his focus he might not have didn’t land the punch.

“There were seconds [remaining], but I didn’t give up and put more pressure on him. He let go. I think if he stayed focused for a few more seconds, then maybe I would have missed.

Overeem, however, thought it was stopped too soon, revealing his thoughts once his lip was sewn up.

“Getting stung. Lip not too sexy yet… kind of a quick stop if you ask me – but hope you enjoyed the fight,” he wrote.

Overeem, 41, has since left the UFC.

When he joined the promotion he was an established MMA star who had competed elsewhere including Strikeforce, PRIDE and DREAM.

In December 2011, he made his debut at UFC 141 and finished Brock Lesnar with a body kick and punches. He finished with punches.

His last fight was against Alexander Volkov at UFC Fight Night 184 in February 2021.
