Is Tiger Roll taking part in the 2022 Grand National? Full info on Aintree’s double champion as Any Second Now and Rachael Blackmore on Minella Times Eye Glory

Tiger Roll will go down in racing lore for back-to-back Grand National victories, but it won’t be at the 2022 edition to try and win a third.

Winner of the famous Aintree course in 2018 and 2019, the Irish thoroughbred contested his last race at the Cheltenham Festival last month.

Tiger Roll will not participate in the Grand National 2022

With jockey Davy Russell on board, the Gordon Elliot-trained racehorse rose to fame and was backed for glory last year with the 2020 race canceled due to the Covid pandemic.

But he was taken out of the race by the owners of Gigginstown House Stud due to excessive weight allowance in February.

Last month Tiger Roll competed in Cheltenham where, you could say, was his spiritual home after winning a Triumph Hurdle, a National Hunt Chase and three Cross Country Chases there.

But he was denied a fairy tale goodbye in the Cross Country Chase as his stable mate Delta Work won an extraordinary race.

Tiger Roll looked set for a record-breaking sixth festival triumph, but missed out by three-quarter lengths.

“I got a win at Cheltenham and I’m disappointed,” said Gigginstown owner Michael O’Leary. “We blew the dream away.

“Tiger Roll is a warrior. He came out on his shield and is the horse of a lifetime.

Russell added: “He fell fighting. Of course, he is fantastic.

Jack Kennedy, who led Delta Work to fame, said: “Obviously everyone would have liked to see Tiger Roll win, but you can’t take my horse away either.

A total of 40 runners will start the famous race, which will be screened to millions of people around the world

“I thought I was always going to make it. I knew I could be Cheltenham’s most hated man on Wednesday night if I won.

Without Tiger Roll, Any Second Now is the early favorite for 2022 Grand National glory with the final list of 40 runners and runners to be confirmed on Thursday April 7.

Minella Times and Rachael Blackmore will also be aiming for victory after their stunning victory last year.

The race itself will take center stage at Aintree on Saturday 9th April.
