Iranian Foreign Minister Says Vienna Nuclear Deal ‘Closed’

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian gave his opinion on Sunday

  • “We are close to an agreement in the negotiations,” Amir-Abdollahian said in a phone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, according to a ministry statement.

  • “We conveyed our proposals on the remaining issues to the US side through the EU’s chief negotiator, and now the ball is in the US court,” added the head of Iranian diplomacy.

This refers to the broken negotiations to restore the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers. The agreement is known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with France, Germany, Britain, Russia and China directly, and the United States indirectly.

The point on monitoring the progress (or not) of the talks is that oil analysts are of the view that once a deal is reached, more Iranian oil will flow to world markets. Most accept that it won’t happen overnight. But, the further this chasm expands, the more time Iran has to prepare to sink the oil.
