Internet shocked by 22-pound dachshund that kept growing: ‘More to love’

A dachshund owner has left the internet in anger after admitting he thought he bought a miniature dachshund, only for it to grow to twice its expected size.

Dachshunds are certainly a favorite among dog lovers, and it’s no surprise that they rank in the AKC’s top 10 most popular dog breeds in 2022. Owners of Jerry the Sausage Dog, thought they had a miniature dachshund when they brought him home, but were amazed to see their little puppy continue to grow.

The hilarious clip showing Jerry on a walk when he was smaller was posted to his dedicated TikTok account (@jerrytheween), later showing off his current 22-pound frame. Since being posted on August 14, the video has gone viral with over 951,300 views and 68,000 likes.

Jerry’s size may have surprised his owners, but they wouldn’t have had it any other way, as the caption alongside the video reads: “I love our 22 pound sausage.”

A standard adult dachshund can weigh between 16 and 32 pounds, but the American Kennel Club (AKC) says a miniature should weigh no more than 11 pounds. On average, a standard dachshund should reach up to eight or nine inches tall at the shoulder, compared to miniatures which only stand five or six inches tall.

It is not certain if Jerry is actually a standard dachshund, or if he is potentially mixed with another breed and that is the cause of his larger figure. Regardless of the size of the dog, Dachshunds are iconic for their recognizable short legs and long bodies.

They may be small, but these dogs have a big personality and they definitely won’t be afraid to talk.

The AKC recommends exercising them regularly to keep them fit and active, but then they will love snuggling with their owner and spending lots of quality time together. Dachshunds don’t like to be excluded or isolated, so being by their owner’s side is their favorite place.

Jerry’s owners continued to share videos of their huge dachshund’s cheeky antics, generating many followers on social media.

The video showing how Jerry’s owners thought their “dachshund would stay miniature” amused many TikTok users, and the viral post has already garnered over 100 comments.

Many dachshund owners have described making the same mistake and seeing their dog continue to grow beyond their expectations.

A comment from user @calucia2020 reads: “I can relate! My mini now weighs 24 pounds! Her littermates and parents are all under 14 pounds.”

While @stephlovesdogs3 commented: “Chonky sausages are the best! »

In another comment, user @ollietheweenie joked that there’s simply “more to love” now that Jerry is all grown up.
