Inter Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu slams ‘attention-seeker’ Zlatan Ibrahimovic, claims Swede ‘didn’t contribute’ to AC Milan win

Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has hit back at former team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s antics while claiming Inter are a “much stronger team” than AC Milan.

Calhanoglu spent four years at AC Milan before becoming a free agent and moving to rivals Inter in 2021.

The 28-year-old has revealed he moved to Inter to win the Scudetto, but in his debut season the title ended up at the back of former club AC Milan. which led to many people making fun of him.

Ibrahimovic was among the group of people who mocked the Turkey international with a barrage of insulting chants directed at him during the club’s victory parade.

“He’s a 40-year-old man, not 18, so I wouldn’t do that kind of thing at his age. He just likes to be the center of attention,” Calhanoglu told Tivibu Spor via football-italia.

“He hasn’t contributed to the Scudetto this season, he’s barely played, but will do anything to be at the center anyway.

“Besides, he’s the one who always calls me, asks me to go out to dinner or go for a motorcycle ride. He also wrote about me in his book. He had to write something, otherwise it would have been blank pages. Better not bother, honestly.

Despite missing out on the Serie A title, Calhanoglu had plenty to be happy about after scoring eight goals and providing 13 assists in 46 games in his first season with Inter.

He did not end the season empty-handed, however, as Inter won the Coppa Italia, beating Juventus in the final.

On his intercity move, Calhanoglu said: “It was very difficult because it was the same city and different colors, but I worked hard and knew it was my opportunity to join the defending champions. of Italy.”

“Then when the team I joined didn’t win the Scudetto and my old club did, people acted like it was my fault. I’m very happy at Inter , however, and the support of the fans is very useful. I played in Milan for four years, but nobody ever chanted my name in the stands, while it happens every time I warm up for the Inter.

Calhanoglu insisted that despite AC Milan winning the title, it is Inter who have the strongest team in Serie A.

“Inter are a much stronger team than Milan,” he added.

“We lost a derby that suddenly changed in the 75th minute after Ivan Perisic and I were substituted. We were leading 1-0 and then losing 2-1, so the manager (Simone Inzaghi) contributed to the loss and I told him.

“In the Coppa Italia semi-final we beat Milan 3-0.”
