India’s number of active Covid-19 cases is lowest in 522 days at 1,35,918; Daily count to 11,271

With 11,271 people testing positive for the new COVID-19 on Saturday, the total number of cases in India rose to 3,44 37,307, while active cases fell to 1,35,918, the lowest in 522 days (17 months ), according to data from the Union Health Ministry updated on Sunday.

The death toll has risen to 4,63,530 with 285 deaths in the past 24 hours, according to data updated at 8 a.m.

The daily increase in new COVID infections has been less than 20,000 for 37 consecutive days and less than 50,000 per day for 140 consecutive days now. Active cases now represent 0.39% of total infections, the lowest since March 2020.

The average recovery rate for the country currently stands at 98.26%, the highest since March 2020, the health ministry said. There has been a decrease of 390 cases in active COVID cases over the past 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate has been recorded at 0.90% – less than 2% over the past 41 days. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 1.01 percent, which has been below 2 percent in the past 51 days, according to the Department of Health.

The number of people cured of the disease rose to 3,38 37,859, while the death rate stood at 1.35%.

India’s Covid-19 count crossed 20 lakh on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It topped 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and topped the one crore mark on December 19. India crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4 and three crore on June 23.
