‘Incredibly dangerous’ – Simon Jordan tells Anthony Joshua to avoid Deontay Wilder for now and says Tyson Fury fight ‘wasn’t good’ for AJ after Oleksandr Usyk loss

Anthony Joshua has been warned of fighting Deontay Wilder in the immediate future by talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan.

The former world heavyweight champion is now planning his comeback after his two losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua and his team are currently planning his return

AJ entered into talks to return directly with Tyson Fury in December, although those negotiations ultimately came to nothing.

“I think common sense prevailed,” Jordan said on White and Jordan on talkSPORT.

“We might have wanted this situation with Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, but it was definitely not good for Anthony Joshua.

“Because it was at a time when you saw the emotional meltdown.

“We criticized him after the fight against Oleksandr Usyk, you saw the challenges he had, he needed an opportunity to regain ground.

“I actually think there’s nothing wrong with him having a few fights to bring him back to his best.

Jordan doesn’t think it would be wise for AJ to fight Wilder right now

“We want to see the best version of Anthony Joshua be available to fight the best version of, ideally, Tyson Fury.

“And we don’t want there to be a situation where Tyson Fury bullied and harangued and used every opportunity to bring Anthony Joshua into a ring removing all arguments about splits and making a fight that, really and truly , was not in Anthony Joshua’s interests at the time.

“The only version of Anthony Joshua that has a chance of beating Tyson Fury is the best version.

“That better version can’t be someone who just came out of two fights where he was better in the second, but mostly outclassed.

Fury now faces Derek Chisora, not Joshua

“Then to fight a better fighter and expect a different outcome is the definition of insanity.”

Now Joshua looks set to either return with a fight against a lesser opponent in February 2023 or wait for a bigger fight to happen against Wilder or Dillian Whyte.

For the first time in years, communication is once again open between Joshua and Wilder’s camps, although there is still a long way to go before the pair step into the ring together.

Jordan said of the news: “I mean, it’s an incredibly dangerous fight for him.

Wilder came back with a first-round knockout of Robert Helenius last month

“But I think it would sell massively because people would be so intrigued by it.

“I think he has a journey to make before he gets close…

“It will be interesting to review the roadmap.

“If I were Joshua, I would want to keep Deontay Wilder in the background for as long as possible.”
