“Inclusiveness” and “benevolence”? Queer techno party in migrant camp sparks uproar – RT en français

The organization of a “techno queer” party in a place sheltering migrants in Vitry-sur-Seine, came to an end after the intervention of the police. Castigated on the web for choosing this location, the organizers are trying to justify themselves.

“We are accused precisely of the opposite of what we are committed to and have chosen this place: tolerance, solidarity, inclusiveness, benevolence”: in a press release published on September 6 on Facebook, Clément and Victor, organizers for the collective “La toilet ”, say they are both“ devastated ”and“ shocked ”by the turn of events after the“ queer techno party ”they organized in Vitry, in a“ place sheltering migrants ”on the week -end of September 4 and 5.

In the text they published on the social network, the two men deplore the avalanche of hostility to which they have been subjected since this recent event which quickly turned into a fiasco, as reported by Tsugi magazine. “General stupor, [les participants à l’événement] quickly realize that it is a refugee camp and the first messages are starting to appear on social networks, ”for example described the French monthly according to which the police later made an interruption of the evening.

“What happened is unworthy”

Many people have sharply criticized on social networks the conditions of realization of such an event, in the first place the disc jockey Nymed DJ, who explains to have been “booked for the evening”. “No you are not dreaming, it is indeed a little girl in the middle,” he commented, supporting video posted on Instagram. “Everything that has happened is unworthy: people having taken their tickets is one thing, but it is unacceptable to wreck a space so precious and already so precarious”, the artist also lamented.

In addition to the wind of anger that crossed the techno scene over the event, the deputy mayor of Paris Frédéric Hocquard, in charge of tourism and nightlife, also reacted to the affair. He explained that he was initially asked to advertise this event. Sharing the bad experience of a participant, the president of the National Federation of Communities for Culture denounced “a real scandal”.

Financial compensation required

In a press release published earlier this week, the two organizers of “La toilette” explained that they had established prior contact with “the manager as well as three delegates from the place sheltering migrants”.

“They explained to us that since the health crisis their situation had become more and more difficult, that they could no longer work and that the financial compensation proposal suggested by the manager would help them enormously. […] They told us that they loved the party, that some of the locals would be delighted to come and dance with us and that they were sincerely happy to welcome us. This meeting really touched us, the idea that the energy generated by this festival could support them and improve their situation convinced us to choose this place ”, they write.
