The port of Saint-Raphaël, in the Var, is hosting an old rig until Monday April 4: a 32-meter corsair boat. Called “La Grace”, it allows you to dive back into the history of pirates.
The queue in front of “La Grace” is endless, in Saint-Raphaël (Var). Dozens of people take their troubles patiently to discover an old rig. This 32 meter long Czech sailboat has two masts 23 and 25 meters high. On board, the sailors dressed in period costumes. “Sometimes we turn off all the navigation systems, like in the 18th century. We do everything like in the old days: we drink like in the old days, we eat the historical food, we dress like in the old days”explains Romana, the owner of the boat.
“La Grace” is a replica of a legendary 18th century corsair boat. First intended for trade and exploration, it had ended up in the hands of pirates. “We built the boat in Egypt, in 2010, from the original plans”says Joseph Dvorsky, the captain of the boat, who describes himself as “a nice pirate”. The boat will be at the quay in Saint-Raphaël until Monday April 4, with visits scheduled every day.
