Ally McCoist, Rangers legend and talkSPORT host, has revealed what he said to his former side’s players ahead of their Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The lovable Scottish football icon is in Sevilla for the final, watching his former side in a historic clash which will be LIVE on talkSPORT.
A club hero during a trophy-laden 15-year spell at Ibrox, McCoist will hope to see Gers claim victory in their first European final since 2008, overcoming the odds after a stunning run.
Sevilla’s Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium will host the clash against German side Frankfurt, and McCoist soaked up the pre-match atmosphere as he caught up with the players.
And he told talkSPORT Breakfast he couldn’t resist giving a ‘hug’ to a few of them as he spoke of his pride in the Rangers stars.
He said: “I’m so envious, but envious is the wrong word, we’ve all had our day.
“I had a little pitchside chat last night with Connor Goldson and the big man [John] Lundstrom, and it was so wonderful to see their eyes.
“They were looking at the stadium and it was like they wanted to pinch themselves and say, ‘are we really there?’

A big part of Rangers’ run to the final was manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who replaced Steven Gerrard in the dugout after spells at Guangzhou R&F and Feyenoord.
McCoist also managed to speak to head coach and his assistant Roy Makaay, with the Dutch footballing legends revealing what they told the players ahead of the final showdown.
“I’ve spoken to Gio and Roy Makaay and they’ve been brilliant, both coaches,” McCoist said.
“They were saying listen, we’re trying to do this, not another game because clearly it’s not just another game, but they were just trying to play down the whole situation, telling the boys, ‘whatever you do, enjoy it. experience because you may never be here again.
