In a year the princess of pop has spoken out against the guardianship she found herself in – both in Los Angeles Superior Court and in various social media proceedings – Spears was able to free herself from the stronghold placed on her in 2008 by her. father, James P. Spears, otherwise known as Jamie.

His trusteeship case even reached Congress in July with the introduction of the bipartisan FREE Act to protect the rights of about 1.3 million Americans in trusteeship.

Lawmakers have praised Spears for courage in speaking out against his guardianship and exposing the broader issues with the court-appointed guardian system that impacts many people beyond Hollywood.
“She had the opportunity … to shine a light on this abuse with ordinary Americans,” Mace said at the time in a virtual press conference in which she spoke in front of a pink poster of Spears. and was wearing a “Free Britney” shirt.
“Her situation is a nightmare,” Mace added. “And if it can happen to Britney Spears, it can happen to anyone in this country.”
Crist said the legislation would establish much-needed federal safeguards to protect people from abuse and exploitation and implement increased transparency measures.

When Judge Penny made the decision to end guardianship in November, her lawyer Mathew Rosengart called it a “monumental day” during a press conference outside the courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.
At a hearing on Dec. 8, to discuss “financial and accounting matters,” Justice Penny also granted Spears the power to execute documents on her own.
Rosengart appeared in court at the time on behalf of her pop star client, who was on vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and argued that “Ms. Spears, as an independent woman, not under guardianship,” should be able to sign his own. name to the documents, according to a report from Variety.

Spears’ attorney called the meeting as a “safety net” regarding his estate. The temporary estate custodian, Chartered Accountant John Zabel, will handle the transition of Spears assets and trust matters.
Meanwhile, Jamie Spears continues to push back against criticism that he engaged in questionable transactions as the custodian of Spears’ estate, including allegations that he placed eavesdropping devices in the home of his daughter and allegedly even had her cell phone cloned.

Rosengart previously told Fox News Digital that Jamie was dodging a deposition aimed at finding out more about the alleged recordings of listening devices illegally placed in the bedroom of his home.

“Many reporters have speculated or commented on James P. Spears,” the attorney said. “I didn’t mention it, [but it] is correct that we served a notice of filing for Jamie to testify under oath. “
“If Britney wants it, we will continue with the testimony of James Spears,” he added. Rosengart also criticized Jamie, saying, “This tutelage has been corrupted by James P. Spears.”
