Hopkinton couple discover hundreds of thousands of bees living in shed

HOPKINTON – A couple were shocked to find an entire colony of bees living inside the wall of their shed in Hopkinton.

“There were literally hundreds of thousands of bees resting in my pyre,” Mike Gram said.

Mike and Ivy Gram love enjoying the natural beauty of their backyard, but nothing could have prepared them for the colony of bees that have made their home inside their tool and woodshed.

“That whole corner was covered in bees,” Ivy Gram said. “In the corner he said oh my God it’s like four feet wide, six feet high covered in bees, maybe 20 bees deep.”

The Grams called their neighbors who happen to be beekeepers.

“He just used a broom and a dustpan to take them out and he had a hive behind him, and he was just pouring them into the hive,” Ivy said.

Today, they are happy that the colony was removed and the bees found a better home.

“So I definitely didn’t want to kill them. If they can use them and have the honey, I’m happy,” Ivy said.
