Here are the most – and least – stressful airports in the United States

A new report outlines the top five U.S. airline hubs that consistently kept travelers comfortable and on time in January 2024, while listing the five that saw the most disruptions as the new year began.

New data from airfare claims company AirHelp found that California’s Sacramento International Airport (SMF) “handled air travel better in January,” according to The Sacramento Bee.

“SMF, which is one of the busiest airports in the country, has been able to transport passengers with exceptional reliability,” Airhelp reported.

The Northern California airport had an uninterrupted flight on-time percentage of 82.30%.

“All of us here at SMF take great pride in minimizing the stress traditionally associated with air travel,” Colm Marmion, customer service manager at Sacramento International Airport, told the Bee.

“Providing our customers with the most enjoyable experience possible is always a top priority,” added Marmion. “A big part of this is ensuring that every touchpoint throughout their airport journey is easy and pleasant.”

The pleasant surprise comes shortly after an unrelated report warning that the future of air travel will be riddled with delays due to understaffing and overwhelming numbers of travelers.

On the other hand, the most notable airport that “failed to provide a stress-free experience for its passengers” last month was the Empire State’s Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

The Western New York airport is located in an area that was hit by torrential lake-effect snow and other severe weather issues in January.

Another major American hub and several airports in the Midwest were also affected by turbulence. Check out the best and worst results below.
