Firefighters were called to a chemical smell at a health club in London’s Canary Wharf financial district, prompting the evacuation of 900 people.
A mixture of chemicals caused high levels of smoke and fumes in the building, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.
Station Commander Dave Hill, who was on the scene, said: ‘Crews scanned the building and found high readings.
“Firefighters have ventilated the building and are monitoring smoke levels. We evacuated about 900 people from the building as a precaution.
The brigade was called just after 9 a.m. and the incident continues. Two fire engines from Millwall and Poplar fire stations and two fire rescue units from Bethnal Green and Euston fire stations are at the scene.
