Grizzlies change road trip plans after Ja Morant gun video
As concerns arose regarding the Memphis Grizzlies’ behavior on the road, the team took steps to limit how often players can go out while on the road.
Following Grizzlies star Ja Morant’s suspension for showing a gun at a Colorado strip club, which he posted on Instagram Live, The Athletic reported that the team is returning home immediately after other games on the road, especially from “glitzier” cities like Miami.
Athletic’s Shams Charania reported two weeks ago that veteran Steven Adams addressed the team’s nightlife habits at a players-only meeting, telling his teammates they needed to “show some care.” ‘better discipline on the road’.
Morant, 23, was suspended eight games by the NBA on Wednesday for the gun video, which included the five games he had already missed.
He’s eligible to return on Monday, but Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said it’s unlikely because Morant needs time to prepare for a comeback.
Photos obtained by The Post showed Morant dancing at Shotgun Willie’s in Glendale, Colorado, with cash all over the floor and furniture in the VIP room.
Morant said Wednesday during an ESPN meeting with Post Renaissance Man columnist Jalen Rose that the gun was not his.
“It’s not who I am,” Morant told Rose. “I do not tolerate any type of violence, but I have taken responsibility for my actions.”
Morant spent time in a counseling program in Florida after walking away from the team on March 4.
The All-Star guard was previously accused of repeatedly hitting a 17-year-old boy in the head during a pickup game at Morant’s over the summer.
Morant then allegedly emerged from his house with a gun visible in his belt.
In another incident over the summer, the head of security at a Memphis mall told police that Morant “threatened” him during an argument in a parking lot.
“I’m going to show everyone who Ja really is, who I am, and change this narrative that nobody painted on me,” Morant told Rose.
“I realized that I have a lot of children who look up to me, even adults, a lot of fans and I realize my past mistakes are being a good role model. So I just have to be better at it. , be more responsible, be smarter and make better decisions.
