  • Isaiah Washington spoke about his former “Grey’s Anatomy” partners on “The Tavis Smiley Show”.

  • Washington called Patrick Dempsey, who played McDreamy in the medical drama, a “total tyrant.”

  • He said Ellen Pompeo took “secret money” to keep quiet about Dempsey’s “toxic and mean” behavior.

Isaiah Washington said “Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo had accepted “$ 5 million under the table” to shut up and “not tell the world how toxic and mean Patrick Dempsey really was” on set.

During an interview on Tavis Smiley radio show on October 21, Washington said Dempsey “wasn’t a nice guy from day one.” He also called Dempsey a “total tyrant” who had a reputation of being a “pilot poison”, that is, an actor who represents a handicap for a show to be reprinted for a series.

Washington said Pompeo took “secret money” from anonymous parties during the time the #MeToo movement was in the headlines before signing a $ 20 million contract to continue on “Grey’s Anatomy” and become the highest paid woman on television.

The #MeToo hashtag went viral in 2017, largely inspired by reports on now convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein from the New York Times and The New Yorker. Many women in Hollywood have made allegations of sexual abuse and described gender disparities.

Pompeo signed his $ 20 million contract with ABC “at the end of 2017,” according to his January 2018 interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“And you want to run here like you’re the guardian of all female women and the feminist movement,” Washington said, referring to Pompeo.

The “P-Valley” actor said he never felt supported on the set of the medical drama because he “never wanted to.”

“Every day I was a problem that I was reminded of, ‘You’re number 4 on the call sheet,'” he said.

Washington has said that by the time he left “Grey’s Anatomy,” his own behavior on set was being used to cover that of Dempsey.

Washington was at the center of one of the early controversies on the set of the long-running ABC medical drama when several witnesses said he used a homophobic slur to refer to his co-star TR Knight during a fight with Dempsey. Washington apologized for its actions to People in 2006 and was fired from the show the following year.

Representatives for Pompeo and Dempsey did not immediately respond to Insider’s requests for comment.

Dempsey’s behavior on set was not “McDreamy,” a former executive producer of “Grey’s” said

In “How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey’s Anatomy,” a recently published revealing book on the medical drama by Entertainment Weekly Editor-in-Chief Lynette Rice, former “Grey’s” executive producer James D. Parriott does similar comments. about Dempsey’s behavior, saying the actor “often terrorizes the set.”

“Some of the cast had all kinds of PTSD with him,” Parriott adds. “He had this hold on set where he knew he could shut down production and scare people.”

Dempsey never directly commented on the allegations regarding his behavior on set. In his 2015 “Grey’s Anatomy” exit interview with Rice, he said his departure from the show “went very organically,” but added that “it happened very quickly”.

In November 2014, Dempsey took a six-episode “hiatus” from the show for reasons he did not explain to Rice.

“They tried to keep it a secret as best they could,” he said.

Dempsey said his irregular hours were difficult for his family.

“It’s 10 months, 15 hours a day. You never know your schedule, so your kid asks you, ‘What are you doing on Monday?’ and you say, ‘I don’t know’ because I don’t know my schedule, ‘”he said. “Doing this for 11 years is a challenge.”

He added: “What I would like to do is focus on not being so scattered.”

The next episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” airs Nov. 11 at 9 p.m. ET / PT on ABC.
